People like to reinvent this thing.<\/p>\n<p>Designers on the other hand, like to reuse. We have things like design trends because designers like to take what they see. We wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get the whole \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Web 2.0\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, if designers wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t use the same things from project to project. They know what works and they build on top of it.<\/p>\n<p>Developers need to think more like designers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tools<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Frameworks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ruby on Rails<\/li>\n<li>Django<\/li>\n<li>CakePHP<\/li>\n<li>CodeIgniter<\/li>\n<li>ZendFramework<\/li>\n<li>Etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But the point is that you can take any of these frameworks and build applications really good and fast on top of it.<\/p>\n<p>JavaScript:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>JQuery<\/li>\n<li>Prototype<\/li>\n<li>ExtJS<\/li>\n<li>Mootools<\/li>\n<li>YUI<\/li>\n<li>Dojo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CSS:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meyer Reset<\/li>\n<li>YUI CSS Grids<\/li>\n<li>Blueprint (it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not only a grid, but also base typography)<\/li>\n<li>960.gs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Platforms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adobe AIR\/Flash\/Flex<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft WPF\/Silverlight<\/li>\n<li>Java\/JavaFX<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Language of Markups:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>REST,XML-RPC,SOAP<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Flash?!<\/p>\n<p>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not one technology vs. Other stuff. We can mash.<\/p>\n<p>So we can do in flash:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Built-in Socket support<\/li>\n<li>Flash\/JavaScript bridge (we can do cross-domain calls)<\/li>\n<li>Binary transfer format<\/li>\n<li>Charting, IMAP and other<\/li>\n<li>SoundManager \/ sIFR \/ File Upload<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Types of Data<\/p>\n<p>How can we look a the data, to help us mash up even better.<\/p>\n<p>Location:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maps (Google, Yahoo, Microsoft)<\/li>\n<li>Crime Database (Everyblock)<\/li>\n<li>Real Estate (Trulia)<\/li>\n<li>GPS<\/li>\n<li>FireEagle<\/li>\n<li>BrightKite (tying into FireEagle, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s possible to push and pull data around)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Time:<\/p>\n<p>(Everything has a timestamp on it)<\/p>\n<p>Relationships:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social networks (flickr, twitter, jaiku, youtube, digg)<\/li>\n<li>LinkedIn<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Downfalls:<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Dynamic APIs\u00e2\u20ac\u009d . The problem is that Twitter API is not static, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s changing. Even though they have cool stuff, they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re disabling functionality because their servers are full. This can break your application, and this is really frustrating for developers.<\/p>\n<p>Service Availability. You have to consider that things will go down.<\/p>\n<p>You become middleman, so if you build a FlickR application and it goes down, people will blame you and not Flickr.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Well-tested<\/strong>, so if you use a reliable wide used stuff you know that you won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have to worry about implementation detail.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speed up development<\/strong>, you can build up applications very quickly and easily.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solve problems outside of original solution<\/strong>, original solutions don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t necessarily tailor to the different people. One example of this is Accessibility.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s about IDEAS!<\/strong> It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s about solving problems that fit your business needs and your personal itches.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ideas:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Get them out fast<\/p>\n<p>Iterate fast and often<\/p>\n<p>See what works<\/p>\n<p><strong>How fast?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Push out ideas in hours, instead of days, weeks, or months.<\/p>\n<p>DjangoPlugables &#8211; it took about 3 days to build a site and put it out there.
