Isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t that enough, so why would we need other wiki\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s?<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia is not a lot of heap of things &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:NOT\">http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:NOT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So what do you do with these things?<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wikimedia has educational goal. There is another company <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Wikia\" rel=\"homepage\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wikia.com\">Wikia<\/a>, that runs these specialized wiki\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Variation of popularity within Wikia<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0-&gt; 5000 very active users per month in gaming but only 183 in books<\/p>\n<p>&lt; 10,000 monthly pageviews in health, compared to 11.3 million for WoWWiki alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Health wikis<\/p>\n<p>Zh-tw.med.wikia.com is the most visited health wiki at Wikia bus has &lt; 600 pages<\/p>\n<p>Locked down editing is common<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0&#8211; E.g. &#8211; Elsevier\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Wiser wiki\u00e2\u20ac\u009d asks for verification of physician qualitifactions<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia is far more detailed and complete than the largest specialist health wikis. So health is not really working on separe wiki\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s. One of the reasons for this could be that it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a encyclpedia topic and encourage in Wikipedia.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gaming content<\/p>\n<p>The content is reguraly delted from Wikipedia. Doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t fit the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153textbook\u00e2\u20ac\u009d model. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s often seen as trivial or non-important.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Wikibooks\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikibooks\">Wikibooks<\/a> also has policy it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not for for video game strategy guides.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Topics deemed \u00e2\u20ac\u0153unenycyclopedic\u00e2\u20ac\u009d can thrive on their own. The 3 top gaming wikis have more articles then all the health wiki\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s combined.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Comics and Wikipedia<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Controversy led to creation of Comixpedia<\/li>\n<li>Still many comic-related deletions<\/li>\n<li>Growing number of independent comics wikis<\/li>\n<li>Marvel Database has 26,000 articles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recipes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2004 lots of recipes got deleted from Wikipedia. Wikipedia asks people to add recipes to Wikibooks Cookbooks, but it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s often not well received. You can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t add variations of recipes and such.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wikipedia and social networking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>People tried playing chess on Wikipedia, or do social networks. All of these things were deleted.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Wikia builds into software itself tools that allow such operations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is needed regarding deletion:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Better workflow for information initially in the wrong place<\/li>\n<li>Easier ways to find the correct place<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>WikiRecycle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A bot takes articles thar are listed for non-speedy deletion<\/p>\n<p>Archives them where they can be reused by other wikis, with full attribution.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is needed<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Links between projects:<\/li>\n<li>Part of interface<\/li>\n<li>Automated<\/li>\n<li>Appealing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This also works for languages.
