Inspired by all the talks of Widgets in recent times, I decided to make an effort and design a widget!<\/p>\n<p>The basic layout is simple (drawing by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/r8r\/\">r8r<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/r8r\/438289142\/in\/set-1743265\/\">Morticia<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc\/2.0\/deed.en\">CC-BY-NC<\/a>):<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_497\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-497\" style=\"width: 224px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jurecuhalev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/weathergirl.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-497\" title=\"WeatherGirl Facebook mockup\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jurecuhalev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/weathergirl.png\" alt=\"WeatherGirl Facebook mockup\" width=\"224\" height=\"247\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-497\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WeatherGirl Facebook mockup<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The next step is, to get a graphic artist and draw about 20 different poses and clothes for the girl. Idea being here that you take into account what kind of temperature\/weather is there, and then depending on need for umbrella add it to her clothes or make her wear a rain coat!<\/p>\n<p>Recipe list is then quite simple:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Get <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Weather forecasting\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Weather_forecasting\">weather forecast<\/a> data from one of different sources<\/li>\n<li>Find an artist to draw you weather girl or assemble yourself from free cliparts<\/li>\n<li>Figure out <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Facebook features\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Facebook_features\">FBML<\/a> or <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"IGoogle\" rel=\"homepage\" href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/ig\">iGoogle<\/a> XML<\/li>\n<li>Write a script that ties it all together and updates weather information each morning<\/li>\n<li>Add some social\/viral features<\/li>\n<li>Spam all your contacts<\/li>\n<li>???<\/li>\n<li>Profit!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>The Profit step<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Since we&#8217;re living in <em>uncertain times<\/em> it&#8217;s important to ask, where&#8217;s the profit in this little\u00c2\u00a0exercise? I believe there are many groups that could benefit from building such application in Slovenian widget space:<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Weather parts of TV stations (24ur vreme, RTV Slo vreme) as a way to extend their online offerings and to promote their weather online and TV offerings. Since everyone already knows they both have weather it&#8217;s more of a branding effort for them.<\/li>\n<li>As an\u00c2\u00a0exercise\u00c2\u00a0for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.domenca.com\">Domenca<\/a> team (<strong>btw: they have a new page!<\/strong>) to promote the fact that they sell <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mimovrste.com\/artikel\/1480084934\/q=de\u00c5\u00benik\/otroski-deznik-samsonite-funny-face-umbrella-16601\">umbrella&#8217;s<\/a> (<strong>well, at least one<\/strong>) on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mimovrste.com\">Mimovrste<\/a> and gain customers with that (+ branding).<\/li>\n<li>For a new team on a market, to show that they&#8217;re able to build a &#8220;viral&#8221; Facebook app and a way to prove that they can build Facebook and other widgets.<\/li>\n<li>Fun afternoon project for a local geek, to speed up his or her job creation.<\/li>\n<li>Well, there&#8217;s always an option &#8211; <strong>because, it&#8217;s fun and a way to unwind<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>Lessons learned<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>While documenting this idea, I&#8217;ve learned a few new things:<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"OmniGraffle\" rel=\"homepage\" href=\"http:\/\/www.omnigroup.com\/applications\/omnigraffle\/\">OmniGraffle<\/a> has incredible stencils and there are even more on <a href=\"http:\/\/graffletopia.com\/\">Graffletopia<\/a><\/li>\n<li>You don&#8217;t need a designer to create mockups. A bit of thinking gets you a long way (<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Creative Commons\" rel=\"homepage\" href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/\">Creative Commons<\/a> <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Flickr\" rel=\"homepage\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\">Flickr<\/a> images in this case, combined with OmniGraffle stencils)<\/li>\n<li>Adding social and sharing features to widgets is tricky.
